Yes, the bolts are cheap BUT it's a bit expensive to have the rods re-sized for them. I have read the the weakest link in the Ford 302 is the stock oil pump drive rod, and the 2nd weakest link being the rod bolts. However, you cannot resize them, since you have no way to close the housing bores up like you do in a traditional rod that has machined surfaces where the rod and cap bolt together.

Where conventional rods can be reconditioned, “cracked-cap” rods cannot be rebuilt, only replaced. Due to the excessive cost of original equipment connecting rods and their being prone to rod bolt failures (it’s not possible to replace the rod bolts without resizing the rods unfortunately), the best next solution is our new billet r&r pro connecting rods.
